Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO apologies for financial planning scandal

Thursday, July 3, 2014 Ian Narev, the CEO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, this morning "unreservedly" apologised to clients who lost money in a scandal involving the bank's financial planning services arm. Last week, a Senate enquiry found financial advisers from the Commonwealth Bank had made high-risk investments of clients' money without the clients' permission, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost. Taco Bell mascot Gidget dies from stroke at 15

Thursday, July 23, 2009 Gidget, the chihuahua featured in the Taco Bell adverts in the United States has died from a stroke. The dog died at the age of 15 on Tuesday night. Sue Chipperton, the owner and trainer of Gidget commented saying, "She made so many people happy." She passed at Chipperton's home in Santa Clarita, California. The dog was featured in the 1990s adverts that ran from 1997 to 2000. Tuesday, October 2, 2007 David Vitter, a Republican United States Senator from Louisiana, has earmarked US$100,000 for Louisiana Family Forum (LFF), a conservative creationist organization. Vitter put the earmark into the labor, health and education financing bill for fiscal year 2008. NTSB says pilot error caused crash of Colgan Air Flight 3407

Friday, February 5, 2010 The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has determined that the captain of Colgan Air Flight 3407, which crashed nearly a year ago outside Buffalo, New York during its approach to Buffalo Niagara International Airport, "inappropriately responded to the activation of the stick shaker, which led to an aerodynamic stall from which the aeroplane did not recover," according to a statement issued by the NTSB. BHP halts operations after mine death in Western Australia

Sunday, February 5, 2006 A BHP Billiton nickel mine at Leinster, 645Km northeast of Perth, Western Australia has halted operations after the death of a mine worker. WA Police say Mark Quinn, 32, an employee of mining contractor MacMahon's, working about 900 metres underground, was killed in an explosion. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
