Tom Price, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), resigned from office Friday. He was the 23rd Secretary of HHS and served between February 10, 2017 and September 29, 2017. He resigned after being in office less than eight months.

US President Donald Trump criticized Price on Friday, just before Price resigned. Price has been widely criticized for his spending habits.

Price is an orthopaedic surgeon who became a member of the Georgia State Senate in 1997, and then a U.S.Congressman in 2005. He served as the chair of the House Budget Committee between January 3, 2015 till January 3, 2017.

As secretary of HHS Price is known for creating obstacles for the smooth operation of Obamacare. Under his watch policies were developed to curtail Obamacare. He threatened to slash outreach budgets by 90 percent and reduce grants handed to organization that provide help to the public in the process of enrollment. While he was in office the government website that administers Obamacare has been taken down for maintenance every Sunday for 12 hours.

Don J. Wright has been appointed as Acting Secretary of HHS by President Trump.
