    Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas cuts ties with Israel

    Sunday, March 2, 2008 The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas has cut all diplomatic ties and relations with Israel including any and all communications. Abbas made his decision after recent Israeli crackdown on Palestinian militants has left over 100 people dead and dozens injured. On Saturday March 1, 70 Palestinians were killed in clashes.     Qantas says A380 aircraft are safe to fly after ‘serious’ incident

    Saturday, November 27, 2010 Australian airline Qantas has returned the first of its fleet of Airbus A380s to service, after all six of the "superjumbo" aircraft were grounded three weeks ago following one aircraft's engine sustaining extensive midair damage; it landed safely in Singapore without injury.     Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO apologies for financial planning scandal

    Thursday, July 3, 2014 Ian Narev, the CEO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, this morning "unreservedly" apologised to clients who lost money in a scandal involving the bank's financial planning services arm. Last week, a Senate enquiry found financial advisers from the Commonwealth Bank had made high-risk investments of clients' money without the clients' permission, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost.     First face transplant performed on French woman

    Thursday, December 1, 2005 Surgeons in France have performed a face transplant operation on a French woman who had lost her nose, lips and chin after being savaged by a dog. According to Iain Hutchison, an oral-facial surgeon at Barts and the London Hospital, the transplant is the first one to use skin from another person. Doctors say the woman's new face will be a "hybrid" between her donor's face and her own face before the attack.     Toilet on International Space Station breaks

    Wednesday, May 28, 2008 According to a NASA status report, the lone toilet on the International Space Station (ISS) has broken, leaving the astronauts on board having to use a rigged-up system of bags to collect any liquid waste. According to NASA, the collection fan motor broke sometime last week after one of the crew used the Russian-made toilet in the space station.     Derailments close Australian rail routes

    Sunday, February 1, 2009 Two train derailments in two days have closed railway lines in Australia. A Rio Tinto iron ore train derailled at Pilbara, on a spur of the Tom Price to Dampier line on Thursday 29. The following day, a freight train with 40 wagons derailed east of Kalgoorlie, injuring three people. The second derailment has closed the line used by the long distance Sydney to Perth Indian Pacific passenger train.
