Rescue attempts continue for Tasmanian miners

Thursday, May 4, 2006 Rescuers are continuing their efforts to reach the trapped miners in the Beaconsfield mine in northern Tasmania. A five tonne borer drilling machine has been secured in place to drill a one metre hole through the remaining 12-16 metres of rock that fell into the main shaft. Since drilling began at 7pm last night, the machine has made a 2 cm wide pilot hole half way to the miners. Health-care workers will be able to report current health data from the field to a central database using their mobile phones, under a project to be launched with the help of leading phone companies and the U.S. government. The US$10 million project, called “Phones-for Health”, was announced on Tuesday at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Wednesday, July 4, 2007The 9th summit of the Assembly of the African Union ended in Accra, Ghana just before midnight yesterday. The three day summit, which was scheduled to last until the afternoon of July 3 overran, ending just before midnight. The main issue discussed was the call for the setting up of a Pan-African government. New Jersey real estate investor charged with $2 million theft

Friday, March 20, 2009 The owner of a New Jersey real estate investment firm has been charged with using $2 million of his company's money for construction at his home and other projects not related to work. Gary Klein, owner of the Asbury Park-based REI Group Inc., surrendered himself to police after a Monmouth County grand jury indicted him on one count of theft by deception charges.
